Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, is an ISO 9001:2008 certified Autonomous institution located in Madurai, Tamilnadu, India. It is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. It is one of the several educational and philanthropic institutions founded by Philanthropist and Industrialist Late. Shri. Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar. Established in the year 1957, TCE is funded by Central, State Governments and the Management. The courses offered in TCE are approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. TCE was granted Autonomy in the year 1987 and has since been accredited by National Board of Accreditation. The institution offers the prestigious Masters in Industrial Engineering among others.

Location

The institution is located near Thiruparankundram in outskirts of Madurai 8 kms from city. The campus is located on a sprawling area surrounded by hillocks (heaven beneath the hill) and farm lands.

Patent(s)

Dr.R.Vasudevan,Dean,Department of Chemistry, Thiagarajar College of Engineering has developed and patented the "Plastic Tar Road Technology".[1][2]

Visits by eminent personalities

Dr.A. P. J. Abdul Kalam visited the college in connection with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the college and gave the Golden Jubilee Lecture of Eminence on 20 January 2008.[3]

Dr. Eric A. Cornell - Nobel Laureate in Physics visited the college in September 2009 and delivered Honeywell - Nobel Laureate Lecture Series at TCE during 23rd and 24th. September, 2009.[4]

Open Source Projects

TOSS (TCE Operating System Services) is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution and as claimed by the developer TOSS was developed targeting the student developer’s community. It offers build-essential, OpenSSL, PHP, Java, gEda, xCircuit, KLogic, KTechlab and a variety of essential engineering software for engineering students and developers. Currently, TOSS has reached version 2.0 with major updates.
